Russwood Ltd, a company based in Scottish Highlands, is a working saw mill and supplier with a focus on the provision of high quality hardwood flooring and external cladding and decking for both trade and the general public. As a company they have ambitious plans for the future and have highlighted a market demand for a novel timber façade system that addresses the problems experienced by those using currently available products.
Consequently Russwood have identified a need for a timber façade system which will simplify installation and maintenance issues for their customers. The system also needs to have a strong architectural appeal.
The company has had an excellent relationship with Edinburgh Napier’s Centre for Timber Engineering (CTE) several years; however the recent involvement of 2kt helped them to identify the opportunities for external funding, thus supporting the development of a larger collaboration. 2kt helped identify the most suitable funding packages and the provided in-depth support in preparation of the application. The collaboration will enable the company to use results from CTE’s new evidence-based cladding details and fire test procedures. Taken together these will allow, for the first time, a suite of timber cladding products to be developed and tested which are focused on UK performance requirements and market conditions, thus providing the company is a strong competitive advantage.

This is leading to the launch of a novel timber cladding system which will keep us at the forefront of our industry. 2kt assisted us with securing funding to cover 50% of the costs of the project. Without the additional funding and expertise we would have been unable to tackle such an ambitious piece of work.”
