SFX Technologies Ltd

"In our experience some joint projects with universities start well but unfortunately get sidetracked with paperwork and bureaucracy, our dedicated Business Development Manager has made a big difference in taking care of these areas for us and has ensured the project has run to timescales and to budget."
Jordi Munoz, Head of R&D at SFX.

SFX is a Sound Solution Technology Company whose core business is the design and development of a patented sound delivery technology called SFX Gel Audio™. This technology transfers sound via a unique hydro-gel coupling to almost any surface turning the surface into a loudspeaker panel.

SFX transducer technology has the potential to revolutionise the delivery of high quality sound in products such as flat screen televisions and laptops. Manufacturers of these products face the challenge of providing high quality audio output from devices that are increasingly compact and are unable to accommodate conventional speakers. Cost and customisation are key factors and a need was identified for lower cost materials for sound transmission to the host panel. Transducers also require to be developed, that are smaller, have better acoustic performance and cost less to manufacture in order to meet demands of this sector and establish SFX in this market

2kt assisted SFX with their existing R&D programme and helped the company to identify and obtain funding. The resulting SCORE project between SFX and Edinburgh Napier University identified the possibility of using more conventional thermoplastic materials that are significantly cheaper and easier to manufacture. This project has led to a successful relationship between both parties and a KTP partnership is now underway to allow SFX to develop an acoustic modelling capability.

Jordi Munoz, Head of R&D at SFX said…

“SFX is a small technology company which requires university support to carry out its core research. We have linked with different universities in the past but our relationship with 2kt has been the most successful to date, with over £35,000 secured via SCORE funding to undertake product development of gel audio speakers. In our experience some joint projects with universities start well but unfortunately get sidetracked with paperwork and bureaucracy, our dedicated Business Development Manager has made a big difference in taking care of these areas for us and has ensured the project has run to timescales and to budget. We look forward to working with 2kt again in the future.”
